What is PRP?
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a natural component of human blood that contains numerous growth factors. These growth factors enable the skin to actually repair itself and encourage the regeneration of soft tissues. PRP therapy for facial rejuvenation essentially utilizes the plasma from your own blood to enhance the growth of elastin and collagen, which helps the skin replenish and renew itself for a more youthful appearance and a healthier glow.
An interesting fact about PRP therapy is that this technique has been utilized as an effective medical treatment for musculoskeletal injuries and hair loss for several years. The healing powers of platelet-rich plasma were later found to have remarkable effects as a cosmetic application for facial rejuvenation. PRP treatment is ultimately capable of helping you repair your own skin and quite literally bring out your natural beauty!
What Are the Benefits of Platelet-Rich Plasma for Facial Rejuvenation?
Platelet-rich plasma therapy offers a number of rejuvenating benefits. This advanced treatment can:
- Minimize signs of wrinkles and fine lines
- Improve firmness in skin that has lost elasticity
- Reduce the appearance of mild acne scars
- Improve signs of sun damage
- Improve skin texture, tone, and overall complexion
- Regenerate hair loss/thicken hair
PRP therapy can be an effective option on its own, however, or combined with stem cells and/or SkinPen® microneedling to help the skin better absorb its rejuvenating properties. Dr. Som Kohanzadeh will evaluate your skin during the initial consultation and create a treatment plan based on your unique needs and expectations.
What Does the PRP Treatment Process Involve?
PRP treatment can be performed in about 30 minutes or less and does not require anesthesia. If combined with microneedling, we typically apply a topical anesthetic 30 minutes before treatment. The first step of the process involves the extraction of a small amount of blood. The blood will be placed in a device that separates the platelet-rich plasma component from the red blood cells. Once this has successfully been accomplished, the PRP will be transferred to a syringe, and then carefully injected into the areas targeted for rejuvenation.
This treatment does not typically necessitate a recovery period. In fact, many of our patients go right back to normal daily activities immediately following the procedure. The results of PRP therapy often begin to appear noticeable within the first week after treatment. Since this procedure is designed to stimulate collagen growth, patients should continue to see improvement in the weeks and months that follow. For many individuals, the effects of PRP treatment can last from six months up to a year, and occasional follow-up injections can maintain the results for an even longer period.
Depending on the goals of treatment, PRP therapy can be a one-time procedure; however, two to three treatments are typically required to achieve advanced therapy goals.
Combining PRP Treatments with Stem Cell Therapy
Stem cell therapy can be combined with PRP treatments to magnify the results. Through combining stem cell therapy with PRP treatments, we are able to optimize outcomes and provide you with magnified results. There are two methods for harvesting stem cells. One is through the use of previously processed amniotic tissues which mimic the results of stem cells. This is a powder we can add to any vial of PRP and thereby magnify the results with all the benefits of stem cells. The second method is through harvesting of one’s own stem cell through liposuction and processing of the fat harvested to remove the stem cells. Both options are offered and Dr. Som will review the advantages of each option with you upon consultation. Contact us today to learn more.
How Much Does PRP Treatment Cost?
The cost of PRP treatment at our practice typically ranges between approximately $1,000 to $3,000, depending on the techniques that are being employed (such as microneedling). This is a general average, and it is important to note that the price is not always the same for every patient. The reason for this is due to the fact that, like all of our procedures, PRP therapy is customized for each individual based on their unique needs and treatment goals. Factors that go into determining the total cost of PRP therapy include the specific kind of concerns being addressed, the number of injections necessary for optimal results, whether treatments such as SkinPen® microneedling or other options are being combined with the PRP procedure, and other components. When you meet with Dr. Som for your initial consultation and the PRP treatment plan is developed, a member of our staff will calculate an estimate of the cost of the procedure. This figure will include all expenses associated with the treatment process so you have a comprehensive idea of the final cost. Our practice is committed to making payment for treatments as convenient as possible for our patients, which is why we offer an expansive selection of payment options, including financing arrangements through Prosper® Healthcare Lending. This reputable organization offers a range of monthly payment plan options for qualified applicants who prefer to pay for treatment in periodic installments. We look forward to answering any questions you may have about the many budget-friendly methods of payment available at our office.
